1990-இல் திடுதிப்பென்று திரையுலகுக்கு விடைகொடுத்துவிட்டு அமெரிக்காவில் போய் குடியேறிவிட்டார். அங்கே அடுத்த வீட்டில் குடியிருந்த வெள்ளைக்காரரான பால் செலக்ட்டா என்பவரை 23.04.1992 அன்று அங்குள்ள தேவாலயம் ஒன்றில் வைத்து திருமணம் செய்துகொண்டார்.

Prameela is an Indian film actress in South Indian movies. She was a prominent lead actress during the 1970s and 1980s in Malayalam films. She was noted for her glamorous roles. She has acted around 50 Malayalam movies. She had acted in few Tamil films as well.
Prameela hails from Tamil Nadu. She made her debut through 1968 Malayalam movie “Inspector”. She acted opposite to famous actors like Premnazir in “ormayil nee matram”, Mohanlal insrikrishnapparundu, Mammotty in Sphodanam , Jayan in kallu karthyayani and Nedumudi Venu in Aravam etc.

பிரமீளாவும் ஒரு நல்ல நடிகை . கோமாதா என் குலமாதா,வாழையடி வாழை, தங்கபதக்கம்,கை நிறைய காசு,வீட்டு மாப்பிள்ளை,சொந்தம் போன்ற நல்ல படங்களில் நடித்து கொண்டு இருந்தவர் ஏன் தடம் மாறினார் என்று தெரியவில்லை

Prameela has acted in double role in the movie “Valli Deivanai” wherein Kalaignar Thilagam Ravichandran was the hero. In this movie, her performance was exemplary and excellent particularly in the song “Pooththirunthu kaththirunthen nilamagal poley”. She was not recognised by the Tamil cinema field properly.
she has not co operated to big actor while shooting at foriegn and after some days with his influence she was traped and arrested in prostitute case .later she went abroad and like L Vijayalakshmi, she studied and worked in MNC firm at abroad(this was stated in her interview with leading channel)

Only few artist in my learning, redefined their life after big setback during their peak. Prameela, Vijayalakshmi, Madhavi, Suja Raghuraman, Vaishnavi (Sowcar Janaki relative) are notable stars are well settled and happy life in USA now.
Yes. She was arrested for prostitution and that was a breaking news in those days. She is a versatile and talented artist. Sadly, we do not recognize those. We always mingle one’s personal life and that becomes a rubber stamp image. She is a FANTASTIC artist when it comes to talent.
Also, she ran a business in Coimbatore by name & style ‘PRAMI BELTS’ manufacturing BELTS. I think (if I am right and apologies if wrong) the partners cheated her and eventually closed the unit. She is a super hard worker but the work I hope will be recognized and rewarded by God soon.

“Arangetram” clearly belongs to Pramila who essayed the titular role of Lalitha. No actress was willing to do the role considering the skin show and the morally debased character. Pramila had acted in Malayalam movies and had done a movie called “Paruvakalam” in 1973 where she had played the role of a call girl. Like Rehana Sultan in Bollywood, Pramila was flooded with the roles of vamp with a number of vulgar bedroom scenes thrown for effect. Maybe she needed the money, but in the next four years, Pramila did all kinds of roles never flinching to accept brazen and bold roles. Eventually, by the year 1979, Pramila had become a vamp with a never-ending lust. A leading role opposite Rajinikanth in “Chaturangam” did not help matters as even in this movie, her role had negative shades.
1984 saw the release of “Raja thanthiram” and “Iravvu pookal” – Pramila played a wily woman who uses her sex appeal in the former; in the latter movie, she played the Madame of a brothel. In between all this, Pramila made more than a dozen “A-rated” Malayalam movies that bordered on soft porn.
She vanished from the scene in the late-80’s and as per reports, she is now settled in the US. A talented actress who ended up limiting her career by accepting similar roles in film after film – nothing else is known about Pramila or her past. Her fluency in Tamil is surprising considering reports that she is from Kerala. Strangely, after Arangetram, Balachander never worked with Pramila again.
Lalitha’s aunt was played by Sundari Bai (the evil Lalitha Pawar of Kollywood) and her cousin was played by an actress whose real name was Lalitha. This actress committed suicide soon after the movie. Sasi Kumar who played the Brahmin boy who gets married to Lalitha’s sister succumbed to a stove accident a few years after the movie released.

அரங்கேற்றம் படத்திற்கு யாரைப்போடுவது என்று பாலச்சந்தர் பயங்கர டென்ஷன் ஆனார். சுஜாதா அந்த பாத்திரத்துக்கு ஒத்து வரவில்லை. ஜெயசுதாவும் ஜெயசித்ராவும் அந்த பாத்திரத்துக்கு மிகவும் சிறியவர்களாகத்தோன்றினார்கள்.
ஸ்ரீவித்யாவை அணுகிய போது அவரது தாயார் வசந்தகுமாரி கொதித்துப்போனார். ஜெயலக்ஷ்மியை போடலாம் என்றால் அது பெரிய ரிஸ்க் என்று அனந்துவுக்குத்தோன்றியது.
அப்போது பாலச்சந்தரின் வலது கையாகக்கருதப்பட்ட அனந்து என்பவர் பருவ காலம் பார்த்தார். அவருக்கு அசோகன் நல்ல பழக்கம். அசோகன் பிரமிளாவை அனந்துவிடம் கூட்டிச்சென்றார்.

Lalitha was the name of the protagonist in K Balachander’s Arangetram (1973). Kavitha was the name of the female protagonist in Aval Oru Thodarkathai (1974) directed again by K Balachander. Both of them shot to prominence in Kollywood thanks to director K Balachander. Actress Prameela enacted the role of Lalitha and Sujatha Jayakar enacted the role of Kavita in the respective films. Both of them had immense respect for K Balachander and amazingly both of them rarely gave any interviews. They maintained their Garbosque stance for an unconscionably long time. Sujatha passed away in 2011 after a considerably long stint in films (1965 to 2005) due to cardiac arrest. She also suffered from kidney disease. Prameela is still alive and kicking in the US. I thought it will be interesting to explore their lives – both professional and personal – that were as different as chalk and cheese. Yet the personal lives of both these actresses were filled with melancholy and their screen roles seemed so similar to their personal lives.
The reason I chose to write this article was because my husband Seshu urged me to write about this. Tamil cinema is going through an evolution now with lots of new talent and new scripts and the rapid emergence of Dravidian actors who are raking in crores with their crude looks, unshaved faces and local lingo. Yet, actresses continue to be exploited; some actresses have had broken affairs while others had to deal with failed marriages. Suicides of actresses are also not uncommon.
Sujatha had her own unique identity. She was born in a Malayalee family in 1952 and her father a teacher got an opportunity to teach in Srilanka. Sujatha was born and brought up in Srilanka until the family migrated back to India in 1964. After she finished her matriculation, Sujatha started receiving offers for supporting roles in Malayalam films. Her father did not approve this for a while but later on family circumstances made him agree. Sujatha was eager to act and see herself on the silver screen. The real recognition for her talent came when Sujatha debuted in Tamil films with “Aval Oru Thodarkathai” (She is a serial story). The film dealt with the travails of a woman who has to work to support her family with the father having run away from home and her elder brother (who is a lazy bone) becoming an alcoholic. The movie was a major success at the box office and for the next 33 years she was a prominent fixture in many Tamil films both as a lead actress and as a character artiste. She segued easily from the role of a heroine to a character artiste.
Sujatha did not give many interviews during her hey days and hardly anyone knew about her family life. Now after her death the truth is slowly coming out like a bolt from the blue. Allegedly after she tasted success with her Tamil debut film, Sujatha’s career skyrocketed and her brother Menon started managing her cash. The brother kept on accepting signing amounts from various film makers while Sujatha kept shuttling from one studio to another. It is said that between the years 1975 to 1977, Sujatha did close to 27 films. She got opportunities to work in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada cinema. At one point of time, Sujatha realized that she was being exploited by her own family. In 1977, she married a Christian neighbor called Jayagar, a businessman trading in the sale and distribution of pickles. Contrary to what she had thought, Sujatha just entered one prison from another. Allegedly, she was forced to work in films by her husband. This explains the reason why she did so many movies after marriage. The only time she was missing was when she delivered her children Sajith and Divya. Sujatha has often confided in her co-actors about her predicament but she was clear that she did not want to wash her dirty linen in public and neither did she aspire for a legal separation. She decided to keep the marriage alive for the sake of her children. Jayakar did not allow her to attend any marriage ceremonies or parties and so Sujatha was socially inactive in Bollywood. It was only work and more work for her. She declined to accept any Television shows and quit films in 2006 after the popular hit – “Varalaru” (History) that starred Ajith Kumar. Well known writer Rajesh Kumar wrote a story inspired by her life which was only known to inner circles in Kollywood.
Sujatha acted opposite almost all the leading heroes in Tamil cinema. The opportunity to act with MGR remained elusive. She played the leading lady opposite Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth and also played their mother in later films. But she avoided controversies like the plague. Like Jaya Bhaduri, she refused to expose on screen. She even dragged Telugu director Dasari Narayan Rao to South Indian Film Chamber when he used a dupe in her place for a bathing scene and claimed that there was no dupe.
Ironically in her first Tamil movie, Sujatha played Kavitha, a woman who aspires to lead a happy marital life with her husband and children as a stay-at-home housewife. Tragic events in Kavitha’s life ensure that her aspiration remains a dream. In a likewise manner, Sujatha worked hard for her family accepting film offers left, right and center until it became too exhausting. Then she married Jayakar against her family’s wishes. Her family (her brother in particular) did not want to lose the golden goose. But fate had other plans. Sujatha who was often called the Greta Garbo of Kollywood continued to suffer in silence and she supposedly got her freedom only after death. But the truth is that very few actresses could manage the kind of frenzy she created in Tamil cinema in one hit after another in sterling roles in family dramas. She was an actress who achieved immense success only because of her acting prowess and not because of glamour. Rumour has it her broken ties with her parents and siblings were never renewed.
Prameela, in contrast, had a life that was completely different from Sujatha’s. Today she is a picture of contentment and peace.

Most cinegoers in Tamil Nadu had faint idea about Prameela even after she shot to fame with Arangetram (1973). A victim of typecasting, Prameela was saddled with one vampish role after another despite the fact that she was a good performer. Prameela was so popular in Malayalam films that many thought that she was a Malayali. But the truth is that Prameela is a Tamil Christian born and brought up in Tiruchy, Tamil Nadu. She was born in 1949 and starred in a role in Malayalam cinema in the film “Inspector” (1968) at the age of 19 years. Her family comprised of her parents and brothers and sisters.
Well-known character actor Ashokan was Prameela’s father’s cousin (uncle’s son). That would have given Prameela the lead. Right from the beginning, Prameela began getting vampish roles in Kollywood. Her first release was the 1972 release “Vazhaiyadi Vazhai” that was directed by well known film director K S Gopalakrishnan. However, if till today, Prameela is known in Tamil cinema, it is only because of Arangetram and K Balachander.
Prameela left Indian shores in 1990 and migrated to the US. She worked in a few retail stores and finally applied for a position as a security guard for an American bank. Her job was to guard the cash that was transported from one location to another location. The only time she landed in Chennai was when she learnt of K Balachander’s death in 2014. She got married to her American neighbor in 1992 and today she is leading a happy retired life managing her orchard and going for hunting expeditions with her husband.
In stark contrast to Sujatha, Prameela was never offered any major role of substance in Tamil cinema. She accepted whatever role came her way and soon became an object of ridicule in her sexy avatars where she happily exposed her flesh to a lascivious audience. In Tamil cinema, she showed gumption when it came to enacting hot scenes so much so that she was flooded with offers of a lusty and selfish woman who can do anything to satiate her greed. It was a far cry from the title role that she had portrayed in “Arangetram” which is till today hailed as a classic by connoisseurs of good cinema.
By the early 90’s, Prameela who had turned 40 was desperate to call it quits. She was getting similar offers and age was also not on her side. She refused television offers and goaded by her brother’s son-in-law decided to migrate to the US. Despite being an actress of substance who had her two-minutes of fame in India, Prameela forgot all about that as she began donning the uniform of a guard and started learning to drive a jeep.
During her career (1968-1990) Prameela stayed away from the media refusing to divulge anything about her personal life. Surprisingly despite all the vampish roles that she enacted on screen, her personal image remained untarnished with no controversies at all. There was a stray incident about a leading actor trying to frame her in a prostitution case after she spurned his advances but after that Prameela avoided the limelight as though it was poison. It was only recently that she gave an interview to a Tamil daily 29 years after she had left India and Chennai for good.
Thus, here is a perspective of the lives of two actresses – one who was successful professionally but suffered on the personal front; the other who became a victim of typecasting and got saddled with obscene roles but has had a blissful personal life.
I am in awe of Prameela. Just imagine the transition from an actress to a security guard. If this is not resilience, then nothing else in this world can be termed as resilient. Prameela could have wallowed in self pity, she could have become someone’s concubine or she could have sought roles in Television and lived a life of isolation, despair and hopelessness. But Prameela chose to give up everything and take up a completely new vocation devoid of all the glamour and hype. For 29 years she was away from the media glare. She began learning driving at the age of 45 years and today she (as per her own admission) leads a peaceful life.
It is strange that both the protégés of K Balachander had personal lives that mirrored their Tamil screen debuts. Allegedly Prameela never married during her hey day because she was compelled to support her large family but once she fulfilled all her responsibilities, she chose to call it a day.
All Kollywood actresses should take a leaf out of Prameela’s book and instead of resorting to extreme measures they should learn to fight the challenges in life and emerge victorious.

I have read in another interview that her marriage was an arranged one and she migrated after that and she is childless.She studied at California police academy for two years to become Cash Vault Supervisor.
